BUSY BEE PRESCHOOL

“The heart of the Waldorf method is that education is an art-it must speak to the child’s experience. To educate the whole child, his heart and his will must be reached, as well as the mind.” -Rudolph Steiner

Overview

Our Preschool will follow a Waldorf inspired curriculum. Focusing on the development of the whole child we create a daily rhythm of imaginative play, circle time with movement,  joy in nature, storytelling and singing together.

We will be incorporating all that we teach at Busy Bee into the Waldorf inspired curriculum. We have both 2 day and 4 day options available. Each day the children will help make and be provided a healthy warm snack.

Monday- cooking focus (we will make the recipe we do in our cooking classes)

Tuesday- multimedia art focus

Wednesday- sewing and craft focus

Thursday- outside and movement focus

FAQ about Waldorf

“The need for information, a sense of truth and a feeling of responsibility- These are the three forces that are the very nerve of education.” -Rudolph Steiner

“Tell me I will forget. Show me I will remember. Involve me I will understand.” -Chinese Proverb

Preschool day at a glance

Our day in the preschool begins with me greeting each child. We give mommy or daddy a big hug and go to the table for handwork, chip chop, or playdough. Our class is a place in which the children can grow, learn, and develop while being held in the safety of a warm and predictable rhythm. I hum and sing our way through the day providing a warm tone that carries the child through our daily activities. After working with our hands, the little busy bees tidy up and we gather on our nature mats for movement, games and songs. These circle times are carefully designed both to celebrate the season and to help the children use and develop all of the different planes of their bodies. Circle time is followed by a few quiet moments of resting, then they are dismissed one by one for creative play time. Our play time consists of open ended natural toys and materials that encourage imaginative play. The tidy time song calls the children to the process of putting all our lovely playthings back into their homes, setting our “house” in order. Warm snack is then served (rice, home made bread and honey butter, homemade vegetable soup and fresh produce). We sing our gratitude song and light a quiet candle, resting our voices, while we enjoy our lovely warm food. The children then ask to be excused and each child clears their own dishes. We then prepare for movement and end our day with a story. Thursday’s will be our journey day to Layton park. We will follow some of our in class rhythm and take time to appreciate nature as well as play outdoors.

“My son loved preschool with Ms Erin. He still asks to go back to his “old school” to be with Ms Erin. Erin is as gentle and kind and loving as they come and she can perform magic with even the hardest of kids. I felt so at ease dropping my son off with such a caring teacher and knowing he would learn and grow with the Waldorf method of learning.”  -Nicole J.

Is my child ready for preschool?

Our Preschool is for children ages 3-5 years old. They need to fully potty trained and able to take care of bathroom needs on their own, follow simple directions, able to sit and eat at the table, listen to a story for 5 min, and separate from Mommy and Daddy with minimal assistance from the teacher.

A little about Ms. Erin

I have had many professional and voluntary opportunities to work with children of all ages. I have 3 children ranging in ages from 13 to 17.  Being a mom is my greatest joy. My formal education is in Secondary Education with a teaching degree from Utah State University specializing in Family and Consumer Sciences. Prior to my in home program I worked for 3 years at the Wasatch Charter school in their preschool classes as a co-teacher to a certified Early Childhood Waldorf teacher.  I also organized and oversaw the early childhood kitchen, including creating all the recipes. Prior to this  I co-taught at an in-home preschool program for 2 years. I truly love preschool age children.
